U-16 polling station
Young people can indicate which party they would vote for if they were eligible to vote.
For the 2026 state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we are once again giving children and young people a voice: through the state-wide U16 election. This will allow young people to show which parties they would vote for if they were eligible to vote. Previously, it was known as the U18 election. However, as 16- and 17-year-olds will be allowed to vote in the state election for the first time, the accompanying poll in 2026 will be held as the U16 election for the first time.
The focus is on political education: children and young people engage with political issues, find out about parties and their manifestos, and discuss their own concerns. The U16 election provides accessible opportunities to do so, promotes democratic skills and gives them a hands-on experience of how elections work.
