The Casablanca Film Club is screening *Gelbe Briefe* by Ilker Çatak as part of Intercultural Week.
The film depicts the creeping encroachment of totalitarianism into the world of the arts
Derya and Aziz, a celebrated artistic couple from Ankara, lead a fulfilling life with their 13-year-old daughter Ezgi – until an incident at the premiere of their new play changes everything. Overnight, they find themselves in the state’s crosshairs and lose their jobs and their flat. They move to Istanbul, where they stay with Aziz’s mother for the time being.
Whilst Aziz scrapes by on odd jobs and holds fast to his convictions, Derya searches for a way out that will make her financially independent. Gradually, the distance between them and their daughter grows, until they are forced to choose between their values and their shared future as a family.
