... that this is still the case today (film + discussion)
Closing of the exhibition on the Uckermark concentration camp, film and discussion with Heika Rode on the Uckermark concentration camp memorial site and continuities of exclusion.
Young women* and girls* were imprisoned, tortured and humiliated in the Uckermark concentration camp (KZ). From 1942 to 1945, a total of around 1,200 girls* and young women* were imprisoned there.
The majority of the minors (under 21) were brought there because they had been discriminated against by the welfare authorities as 'asocial' during the Nazi era.
Maria Potrzeba was accused of having a sexual relationship with the Polish forced labourer Florian Spionska. She was 14 years old at the time. After being interrogated by the Gestapo, she was sent to the Uckermark youth concentration camp.
Maria still suffers from her persecution to this day. As in all families, the effects of her family's history of persecution are intergenerational. In the film"... that this is still the case today", nieces and nephews tell how they learned about their aunt's persecution and what this story means to them. (Documentary, 60 minutes, 2016, Director: Heika Rode, Tom Weller).
After the film, director Heika Rode will talk about the continuity of exclusion, film as a means of remembrance, the work of the initiative for a memorial site for the former Uckermark concentration camp and contemporary forms of remembrance.
This event marks the end of the exhibition on the Uckermark concentration camp memorial site at the STRAZE.
