An attempt at a scientific approach to a currently controversial topic.

For almost forty years, population scientist PD Dr Wolfgang Weiß has also been dealing with the anthropological side of demography. He goes beyond the elementary questions of the subject in the narrower sense. The population distribution on earth, the population structure, its changes due to births, deaths and migration are relatively well documented statistically. Of course, not all people are the same. Rather, the diversity of individuals and various groups is part of our nature. People do not only differ according to age and gender, as demography has so far treated in a very abstract way. There are other bio-genetic, ethnographic, religious and social differences. In everyday life, they overlap to form very complex communities, cultures that also reflect different levels of technical and technological development...
... and suddenly some people begin to group, to classify, and to place one above the other, and to justify all this with biological or other characteristics. They talk about races.
But what are races? An invention of the racists? Some believe that there are no races at all. Some even think that racism came first, and then the races. But then again we would be recognising the existence of races. That's why we simply delete the term race from the Basic Law and thus remove the basis for all racism. Quite simple - isn't it?
Dr Weiß says: no. Let's rather try to scrutinise the topic scientifically.
