Punching the world with your fist (STRAZEkino)
Loosely based on the novel of the same name by L. Rietzschel, C. Klaue tells the story of a family that is broken by circumstances and itself and loses its sons to the neo-Nazi scene.
Drama / DE 2025 / Director: Constanze Klaue / 110 min. / OV / FSK12
Brothers Philipp (12) and Tobias (9) grow up in the East German province in the early 2000s. The family builds a house. The gaunt Uwe, who is helping on the building site, is suddenly dead. His downfall seems to reflect the fate of an entire region: too much alcohol, no work and a GDR past from which they cannot free themselves. When they move into the unfinished house, the family begins to fall apart. The father becomes unemployed, the mother tries to keep things going. Tobi and Philipp are caught in the middle, left alone with themselves. In contrast to the domestic and family confinement, the landscape seems boundless. Endless forests, yellow rapeseed fields and the turquoise-blue water of the quarries, which you can jump into to escape boredom for a moment. In a life where there are otherwise few bright spots and role models, nature becomes a place of retreat. In the end, only the older boys remain, who promise adventure but mean violence and xenophobia. Philipp joins them. For the first time, he feels a sense of purpose and belonging, even if it means crossing borders. When a refugee centre is built nearby, the situation escalates.
