Instrumental trios for clarinet, bassoon & piano

Four surprising works are on the program of this extraordinary concert evening, in which nothing is as it seems. Although the first duo for clarinet and bassoon is attributed to the early Ludwig van Beethoven, its authorship is anything but vouched for. Mikhail Glinka's "Trio Pathétique" is predictably characterized by Russian pathos, but exudes at least as much unexpected Italian passion. Felix Mendelssohn's Concert Piece for clarinet, basset horn and piano is a romantic-virtuoso gem with a surprisingly humorous genesis. And finally, Daniel Schnyder's composition "Worlds Beyond" concludes with a swinging jazz piece with extraordinary rhythmic capers. A concert full of discoveries!
