Berit Glanz "Unter weitem Himmel"

The novel interweaves the time periods of Icelandic history and asks how cultural exchange shapes identity and what role love plays in this.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Breton fisherman Olier cruises off the coast of Iceland with his fleet. His life changes when he meets the young Sólrún in a hospital in the East Fjords. Over 100 years later, the German geneticist Maris is researching a sheep chimera right there and comes to surprising conclusions - including for herself.

Berit Glanz, born near Kiel in 1982, studied theater studies and Scandinavian studies in Munich, Stockholm and Reykjavík. From 2010 to 2021, she worked as a research assistant at the Chair of New Scandinavian Literatures at the Institute for Fennistics and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Greifswald. Her debut "Pixeltänzer" (2019) was nominated for the aspekte-Literatur-Preis, the novel "Automaton" was published in 2022 and the non-fiction book "Filter - Digitale Bildkulturen" in 2023. She received the Bremen Net Residency 2020 for a project on AI. As a cultural journalist, Glanz writes about memes, digital literature and other aspects of internet culture. She is also a member of the editorial team of the digital feuilleton 54books. She has lived in Reykjavík with her family since 2021.
