Needle-Occhi – an almost forgotten craft

The Occhi technique, also known as bobbin lace, tatting or frivolité, has a tradition stretching back centuries.

Its origins lie in ancient knotting techniques, which are thought to have reached Europe from the Orient. The delicate Occhi lace in its present form developed in the 19th century and enjoyed great popularity, particularly in ornate lacework. Today, this craft is rarely taught.

In my courses, you will learn the basics of this special technique step by step. Using needle and thread, you will create unique earrings, necklaces or bracelets, as well as small doilies and decorative pieces. No prior experience is required.

However, you should bring with you a love of creative design, as well as patience and a willingness to engage in delicate handiwork. Depending on your skill and speed, you can produce one or two pieces during the course.

Discover an almost forgotten craft and create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces using needle and thread.

Registration for the course is essential and can be done via the website www.vhs-vg.de or in person at the vhs.
Courses offered by the Vorpommern-Greifswald Adult Education Centre are aimed at people aged 14 and over.
