Christmas – that very special time of year when suddenly everyone wants to ‘wind down’ … yet they’re rushing about at an astonishing pace. No sooner has the first Advent wreath caught fire (hopefully only in a figurative sense) than the festive marathon begins, with the stress of buying presents, baking biscuits and the frantic search for that one free parking space outside the shopping centre.
It’s the festival of love, they say. And indeed: nowhere else do we huddle together so closely – whether voluntarily on the sofa or involuntarily in the queue at the till. Wish lists are scrutinised like secret state documents, parcels hidden away like strictly confidential evidence, and somewhere someone is tinkling away at ‘Silent Night’, whilst in the background the timer for the Christmas roast ticks menacingly.
This dance evening takes all of this in its stride with a twinkle in its eye. It celebrates the little disasters and big emotions that are simply part and parcel of Christmas. With plenty of movement, pace and humour, the ensemble whirls through crowded shopping centres, stumbles charmingly over mountains of presents and ultimately finds its way back to what really matters: togetherness, warmth and a little bit of Christmas magic.
