Straddling the line between lyrical expression and symphonic grandeur, this programme reveals two very different yet, in their own ways, compelling soundscapes of the 19th and early 20th centuries. In his orchestral songs, Sibelius combines a finely nuanced musical language with great poetic intensity. The renowned Finnish singer Sam Taskinen interprets these songs by her compatriot Jean Sibelius with a particular sensitivity to the language and sound of this music, which oscillates between images of nature, introspection and Nordic melancholy.
