Holiday workshop: How a museum animal is created
This summer holiday workshop at the MEERESMUSEUM invites children to find out about the work of the taxidermy and exhibition teams – with fascinating exhibits and hands-on activities.
At the MEERESMUSEUM, fascinating exhibits await curious explorers – many of which come from the museum’s own taxidermy workshop: from polar bears and turtles to sharks and rays.
In the workshop, participants explore selected objects right in the exhibition and then step into the shoes of taxidermists, exhibition designers and curators themselves.
By dissecting a squid and making small cast specimens, they’ll learn about various techniques: What’s the difference between a dermoplastic model and a skeletal specimen? How do the specimens end up in the display cases? Who and what actually decides which topics are exhibited? We’ll find out together.
Duration: 240 minutes plus a break
Cost: €12 per person, plus museum admission
Recommended age: the workshop is aimed at children aged 10 to 14.
Further information: We recommend bringing a snack for the break. There is no bistro on site.
