The Sandrart family: printmaking and artistic heritage in the 17th century
Prof Dr Kilian Heck (Greifswald) sheds light on the international career of the Sandrart family.
A portrait engraving of the poet Sibylla Schwarz, which was added to the edition of her German Poetical Poems printed in Gdansk in 1650, was made by Jacob Sandrart after a model by Samuel Niedenthal. Professor Heck will shed light on the economic and artistic conditions that applied to printers and printmakers in the 17th century and highlight the special qualities of the portrait of Sibylla Schwarz.
The lecture will take place in lecture theatre 3 of the university, Rubenowstraße 1.
