childless
A project by Jutta Noetzel (interviews) and Raymond Jarchow (portraits)
“That’s the trick, isn’t it? On your own, you usually can’t think of a thing, and you sink into gloom. But if someone looks you straight in the face and actually shows an interest, suddenly your pulse quickens and you discover within yourself abysses of life left unlived. ‘You’ve got absolutely nothing to say,’ it occurs to you. And you start making things up. Or telling the bitter truth, depending on how you’re feeling. The main thing is simply that you get started, because talking warms a person up and wakes them up, and that’s the only thing that matters!“ Maxie Wander
Just as Maxie Wander did back then, Jutta Noetzel has this time interviewed 19 childless women. Raymond Jarchow has portrayed them. In the photographs and texts, these women reveal aspects of themselves to the public that are usually kept hidden in private.
