At first glance, they appear to be merely detailed, realistic excerpts from the bourgeois Danish home. However, the interior pictures also reveal the wishes and values of society at the time. The light of the lamp reflects the pride in the dignified furnishings, the joy in the new technology of the paraffin lamp, the quiet seclusion of the family room.
