Robert W. Segel is on a reading tour through a wounded country.

In this wounded country, his Alice encounters a society that tricks itself somewhere between political naps and frenetic right-wing applause. She blocks escape routes, transforms playing fields into battlefields, gives the harbingers of prohibitions a clear message and discovers an astonishing amount of greatness in the small-minded - or an astonishing amount of small-mindedness.

Passing by mythical creatures and the outright impossible, the reader encounters not only the left-limping Queen of Clubs, the guessing caterpillar, the inedible Cheshire cat and the tea-drinking Hatter, who can't bring himself to make a decision. Fortunately for the endangered fantasy realm, new ideas for a good life together sprout from the sparse but increasingly wildly flourishing tendrils of resistance.

Lewis Carroll meets the dithering present-day FRG, the familiar characters from Carroll's dream saga are given a new interpretation - witty, sharp-tongued and highly topical.

Robert Segel will read from his book and answer questions, but above all he would like to enter into dialogue with visitors to the event. On questions of democracy, attacks on democracy, the importance of culture and satire and how we can save democracy.
