"Banned books"
The exhibition "Banned Books" deals with a current development in the United States: the increasing removal of books from schools and libraries that deal with topics such as racism, gender identity, sexual orientation, history, politics or social inequalities. In 2024, the American Library Association (ALA) documented 2,452 titles banned from US libraries. The exhibition presents a selection of these banned books and tells the stories behind the debates.
Book bans are not just an American issue - they touch on key issues in our society. We invite you to visit the exhibition to find out more and enter into dialogue - about freedom of expression, responsibility and the importance of diversity in the public sphere. The exhibition is a co-operation between the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Library and the MV State Association of the German Library Association (dbv).
