cantateBach! International vocal competition for oratorio singing

Public singing competition for young singers with main round on Saturday and festive concert on Sunday

Since 2011, an international singing competition for oratorio singing with a focus on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach has been held for young singers in Greifswald every two years. After a digital application round, around 20 young musicians are selected by an expert committee and invited to Greifswald. They will perform the main public round in St Nicolai Cathedral on Saturday in several blocks throughout the day with piano accompaniment. The 8 best performers will take part in the final round on Sunday evening with orchestral accompaniment as part of a concert. After the evaluation by an international jury of experts, the winners will be announced. Four cash prizes totalling €10,000 will be awarded. The public will have the opportunity to award an audience prize. The event always takes place on the evening before the Bach Week. The prizewinners will be heard again during the opening concert of the Bachwoche on Monday evening.
