Celtic Folk & Sea Shanties: Queen Anne’s Revenge
Closing evening of the polish cultural days polenmARkT 2025
The band Queen Anne's Revenge is named after the legendary ship of the infamous pirate Blackbeard. The four-piece formation from Szczecin brings energetic, maritime music and Celtic folklore to the stage. Their aim is to interpret classic English shanties as authentically as possible - raw, powerful and with the rousing sound familiar from folk bands from Western Europe and the USA. In addition, they play lively Irish, Scottish and English melodies as they were once heard on the decks of large sailing ships or in harbor pubs. Typical instruments from the British Isles are used: fiddle, bodhrán, mandolin and Irish bouzouki. The band was founded in Szczecin in 2022 and consists of experienced musicians who were previously active in other folk formations. The audience can expect a varied program of traditional sea shanties, powerful pub songs and maritime ballads, embedded in Irish jigs, reels and polkas - played at a level that is otherwise known from the stages of Ireland, Scotland or England.
