Stuhlflechten - ein altes Handwerk neu entdecken.
Discover the almost forgotten craft of chair wickerwork repair (Viennese wickerwork)
Many households still have old chairs with woven seats. Unfortunately, many of these valuable pieces of furniture end up in the bulky waste bin at some point, either because the wooden joints are coming loose or the seat is damaged. Restoring such wickerwork is time-consuming, but the effort is worth it: with skilled craftsmanship and the right know-how, real gems can be preserved.
Would you like to breathe new life into your old chair and give the seat a fresh new look? In this course, you will learn the technique of classic Viennese weaving under expert guidance - a traditional method that is not only visually appealing, but also particularly stable. The course is aimed at interested amateurs as well as people with a professional background, such as restorers, furniture makers or collectors who would like to expand their knowledge.
Only chairs with a square or rectangular seat are suitable for the course. Round or other shaped seats are not suitable for beginners.
Please note:
Before starting the course, the wooden joints of the chair should be checked for stability and re-glued if necessary.
The old seat (wickerwork) should already have been removed and the drill holes cleaned.
Please bring the old wickerwork with you to the course - it can be helpful for orientation.
The wood in the area of the drill holes must be firm and free of cracks.
The activity is carried out standing up.
Please contact the course instructor and master basket maker Heiko Käding at least 14 days before the start of the course to check the suitability of your chair and to clarify any unanswered questions on: 0175 50 50 325 or heikokaeding@gmx.de
