STADT/BILD

A diverse artistic view of the city of Greifswald

The city is an image that you can walk through - it offers colors and surfaces, structures and materials as well as perspectives and points of view. At the same time, the city is also in a state of permanent change, movement and reconstruction - and therefore also a space that inspires artists and encourages them to engage with it.
The term "cityscape" contains different levels - on the one hand it refers to the image as the appearance of the city, on the other hand and especially in Greifswald it is colloquially used to mean that you may not know a person personally, but "from the cityscape" and have seen them before - the "cityscape" is therefore something extended, something changing and collective.

The exhibition attempts to take a look at this mixture of collective and individual images of the city. Current works by artists from the city of Greifswald, the surrounding area or with a close relationship to it are presented, which show very different perspectives, take up special views and sometimes personal stories. The artistic works presented range from painting, graphics and photography to sculpture.
