Matinee concert in the church

The Leipzig-based duo mélange will be performing this year’s matinee concert in Groß Kiesow. With their unique combination of flute and marimba, these two exceptional musicians have been delighting audiences for more than 25 years. On Sunday 12 July from 11 am, they will be performing works by Astor Piazzolla, Edvard Grieg, Johann Sebastian Bach and other composers at St Laurentius Church. As the ensemble’s name suggests, the audience can look forward to a special ‘melange’ in more ways than one: The various flutes blend with the tones of the xylophone-like percussion instrument to create a rare and extraordinary blend of sounds. Most of the pieces performed have been specially arranged for this unique combination and form a colourful mix of the most diverse musical styles and eras.

Almut Unger was born in Leipzig and completed her artistic studies, specialising in the transverse flute, at the conservatoires in Weimar, Budapest and Leipzig. Thomas Laukel grew up in Kassel and studied classical percussion at the Hanover University of Music, the Berlin University of the Arts and the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin. Both have appeared in international concert series and at festivals, and their music is documented on numerous recordings and videos. In addition, both can be heard as soloists in various chamber music ensembles and orchestras, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the MDR Symphony Orchestra.
