The linocut is a graphic technique that uses letterpress printing.
Special knives are used to cut a motif into the relatively firm linoleum. The material can be easily worked in any direction. Whether portrait, landscape or free-found, the motifs are designed in such a way that multi-coloured prints can be cut from a single piece of linoleum. The printing block is rolled with colour after each cut and then printed on paper using a proofing press. The printing plates are literally lost after cutting. No special previous knowledge is required.
